In celebration we would like to show you the most common turtle you will see on Hawaiian tours, the Green Sea Turtle
Hawaiian for Green Sea Turtle is Honu. Green Sea Turtles live up to about 80 years old.
They eat algae and grasses of the sea to give them their green shell color as adults.
Honu will most likely not bite you. They are friendly and will only bite if they feel cornered and threatened. But it is still not a good idea to try to touch a Green Sea Turtle for their health and yours. There may be fines given if you touch or pursue Honu, so enjoy their presence respectfully.
Green Sea Turtle Hawaii nesting season is between June and October. Turtle eggs hatch about 60 days after being laid.
Survival of some populations of Green Sea Turtles Hawaii is challenged. 11 different groups studied of Green Sea Turtle were given a Threatened or Endangered designation.
There are 8 types of turtles in Hawaii. 5 of those are sea turtles: Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Leatherback Sea Turtle, Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, Logger Sea Turtle and Green Sea Turtle.
Depending on where your travels take you during your Hawaiian tour there are a lot of places you might see Green Sea Turtles.
